Ovid 1568 [elegiac couplets, but the first line doesn’t scan right]

 

Translation:

Conrad Gessner

 

He who does, moves, preserves, and nourishes all—may glory, praise, and honor forever be His alone.

In all things which the earth, water, sea, and ether enclose, the innate power of God is clear. 

All things are made for man as if he is the end [i.e. the goal]; 

Yet man’s own highest end is God Himself.

Omnia qui fecit, movet, et conservat, alitque,

Sit Soli semper gloria, laus, et honor.

Omnibus in rebus, tellus, aqua, pontus, et aether,

Quas claudunt, vis est insita clara Dei

Omnia sunt hominem propter ceu condita finem,

Finis homo est homini praecipuus, Deus est.
